Going again

Okay, so now that my back and shoulders are better (not 100%, but better), it's time to get my ass in gear again. Starting off with baby steps - cardio three times a week to get back in the swing of working out. After a couple of weeks of that, do cardio three times and weight training two times a week. After a couple of weeks of *that*, cardio five times a week, weight training three times a week. It has to become habit, because I am a creature of habit. That which is not habitual usually gets abandoned.

I have until July to lose 15 pounds - put that way, it doesn't seem like such a stretch goal. Less than a pound a week? Come on! If I'm making good progress, I'd even like to lose 20. Of course, the saying is much MUCH easier than the doing. I must get with the doing.

I still don't plan to count calories - I know what's "good" and what's "bad", I know about how much I should be eating, how often, and I know when I've had enough. I don't hold sway at all with Calvin's (insistent) theory that one should only eat once a day in order to lose weight. Let's just say that I know better than him, regardless of how adamant he is.

And he's really adamant.

Here's a shocker for you - he's agreed to work out with me. Every time I work out. Which means I'll have to be the motivator for both of us, because he won't set foot in the workout room unless I've opened the door for him. But hey, I can live with that. I get so bored when I work out that a partner might just be what the doctor ordered.

Other baby goals - lots of water, moderate carbs (I don't think I could be as extreme as Atkins, but I understand the value of moderating carbs), healthy snacks (down with potato chips! down with Klondike bars! not giving up my Skinny Cows!), pack my lunch for work instead of impulse-buying fast food, eat breakfast at home instead of buying monsterous bagels from the cafeteria at work, no exercise session less than a half-hour, stretch before and after workouts, yoga once a week, mix up the cardio (it tends to bore me so much that I abandon it), take vitamins again (C, E, selenium, flaxseed oil, multi, acidophilous, cranberry extract, lysine).

Heather once told me that I seem to like the planning, reading, and researching more than the doing. She's so right! So I refuse to over-plan this plan. There will be no timetables and min/max levels and spreadsheets and detailed records. There will just be me, doing what I already know needs to be done. Getting my ass in gear.

Again.
