Truths that I have learned.
- Water. Drink it. It's good for you, and essential for weight loss and proper body functionality.
- Eat small amounts, often. Portion control is KEY, and spreading out the meals throughout the day helps the body metabolize food. Which means, when you're hungry, EAT. When you're not hungry, DON'T EAT. You'd be surprised how NOT obvious that is. The body can fool you into eating when you're really just thirsty, tired, bored, or cold. So learn to interpret your body's signals correctly.
- Move your butt. And your arms. And your legs. For the most part, it's simple math - to lose weight, burn more calories. Plus, you'll feel better, sleep better, and be able to lift household objects when necessary.
- Watch what you eat, but don't obsess. Balance is key - veggies are good for you, protein is good for you, grains are good for you. Saturated fat is bad for you, sugar is bad for you, salt is bad for you. However, it's still possible to overeat on veggies, and a diet entirely without fat, sugar or salt is not balanced. Common sense is a marvellous value.
- Beware of "elimination" diets, or diets that consist of a few exclusive ingredients. Even better, do away with the word and concept of "diet" altogether. Bottom line, the fresher and furthest the food is from being processed, the better.
