It's tough to be the boss

My manager told our group at the beginning of the year that if we met and/or exceeded our cost savings goal for the year, he would eat a balut.

We did. He did. Today. It looks like this:

It was the most singularly disgusting thing I've ever seen. It looked even worse than this picture. Actually, this site has more accurate pictures, as well as a description of the, uh, food. It was pink and veiny and all jiggly inside this membrane thing. GAH.

He cracked it open, gazed at it for a minute, showed it around to those of us present in the conference room to witness his feat, poked at it and jiggled it a bit, then sucked the WHOLE THING into his mouth. Paused. Blinked. Bulged his eyes. Worked it around in his mouth. Swallowed. Bulged his eyes some more. Turned pale. Then green. Then pale again. Delicately chewed a little. Swallowed HARD. Then stuck his tongue out to show us all his empty mouth, ala "Fear Factor". And then drank some water.

Eee. Yew.

I understand that balut - a weeks old duck egg with a fertilized embryo - is considered a delicacy in some cultures. Not in mine, man. Not in mine.

~shudder~

Uh, I was grossed out just looking at it, but almost gagged when reading that he actually ate it. I used to work with several Filipino guys who ate them for lunch. Ick.

Ew. That goes right up there with cow tongue and hearts and brains.
